I finally crashed my laptop because I had 47 browser tabs open from 3 months ago

My 5 year old Dell froze up last Thursday when I tried to open a PDF and I realized half those tabs were recipes I'll never make. Did anyone else lose important files when their machine finally gave out from digital clutter?

Oh come on, you lost "important files" from having too many browser tabs open? Your laptop didn't crash because of digital clutter, it crashed because it's a 5 year old Dell with a worn out battery and probably some dying RAM. Those recipes you'll never make and random articles from last year barely take up any space, they're just sitting in your browser cache. The real problem is you never backed up your files and now you're blaming it on having 47 tabs open like that's some kind of flex.

And this is exactly the same thing I see with people who blame their phone running slow on "too many photos" when really the battery is just shot and the OS updates finally caught up to the hardware. It's like we'd rather blame ourselves for being messy or disorganized than admit that tech just gets old and breaks sometimes. The "digital clutter" excuse lets people feel in control when really their device just hit its expiration date.

I read somewhere that planned obsolescence is basically the tech industry's dirty little secret, but we'd rather blame ourselves for not organizing our files than admit our phone was designed to conk out after two years. Isn't it funny how we all just accept that our devices have a built-in death date?
