PSA: Cloud storage vs external hard drive for photo backups
I kept 50 gigs of phone pics in Google Drive until I realized they were compressing my 4K videos without telling me. Switched to a 2TB Samsung T7 and now I sleep better knowing nothing gets lost or downscaled. Anyone else ditch cloud for physical drives?

My T7 is literally a lifesaver because I am the queen of accidentally deleting things. I once spent an hour crying over a blurry photo of my cat I thought I lost forever. Physical drives make me feel like I have control even though I know I'll probably drop it down the stairs one day. Plus no monthly fees which means more money for takeout.

I read a review from some tech site that said Samsung T7s can handle a 6 foot drop onto concrete, which is good because I'm clumsy. @holly709 I feel you on the control thing, I keep a second T7 in a fire safe at my friend's house just in case my apartment floods or something. Storing everything locally means I never have to worry about some algorithm deciding my photos aren't worth keeping at full quality. Google Drive did that to me with a time-lapse video of a sunset I took, it turned into a blurry mess. The one-time cost is worth it to avoid that headache.
