The moment I hit 50,000 bookmarks and my browser crashed for good
Honestly I always thought more bookmarks meant I was organized. Like yeah I'll get to that article on sourdough starter from 2019 someday. But last month my Firefox completely froze when I tried to open a new tab. Just a white screen for 10 minutes. I had to force quit and restart. When it came back I saw the bookmark count at 52,847 and felt sick. That's when it clicked for me. I wasn't saving stuff for later I was just hoarding links like a digital packrat. All those tabs I kept open for months? Same problem. Anyone else have a moment where your own device basically called you out on your junk?

@the_sean "scroll for 20 minutes" hit too close to home. I had 40,000 bookmarks once and just deleted everything. Started fresh with folders only. Like recipes, tech stuff, travel. Only keep stuff I actually check weekly. If I haven't clicked it in 3 months it gets trashed.

Used to think people who complained about bookmark bloat were just being dramatic. Then my Chrome started taking 45 seconds just to open the bookmarks manager and I realized I had over 30,000 of them. The real wake up call was when I tried to find a specific recipe and scrolled for 20 minutes before giving up. Now I keep my bookmarks under 200 and actually use Pocket for the stuff I might want later.
