Was skeptical about folder-based email sorting, finally tried it after 8 years
Always thought tags and search were enough, but after spending 20 minutes digging for a receipt from March 2022 I gave in. Set up 12 folders by category (bills, receipts, projects) and now I find stuff in under 30 seconds. Anyone else resist structure only to cave later?

Didn't someone say inbox zero is overrated?

Exactly. Inbox zero is like having a clean kitchen. Looks nice for about five minutes until life happens and you dump everything on the counter again. I gave up trying to keep my inbox empty around 2017 and haven't missed it. Now I just search for stuff when I need it and let the unread count climb to the moon.

Oh man, I feel this so much. Honestly I was the same way for years, thinking tags and search were the future and folders were just old school clutter. But then I missed a credit card payment because I couldn't find the PDF statement in time, and that pretty much broke me. I set up similar folders like you did and it's honestly been such a relief not feeling like I'm hunting for a needle every time I need something. Ngl, there's something really satisfying about knowing exactly where a file lives instead of hoping the search bar catches it. I get why people resist but once you give in it's hard to go back.
