Had to choose between a cheap beach town and a pricier city with better internet
I was in Mexico last month and had to pick my next spot. It was between Sayulita, where a room is like $400 a month but the internet is super spotty, and Guadalajara, where rent is double but the fiber is solid. I went with Sayulita because I wanted the beach vibe, lmao. Big mistake. My first video call with a new client dropped four times in an hour. I spent the next two days working from a cafe that charged $5 for a coffee just to use their wifi. I basically lost money that week. Has anyone else picked the 'dream' location over the practical one and regretted it? What did you do to fix it?

Get a local SIM card with a big data plan as your backup. I used Telcel in Sayulita and it saved me when the cafe wifi died. Also, ask around for coworking spaces, some beach towns have them hidden away. I found one that was cheaper than the coffee shop scam. Next time, test the internet at your actual rental before you commit for a month, not just the general town vibe.

Totally get the "been there, done that" feeling from @kimw57! I used to just wing it, but testing the rental's internet first is a game changer.
