Hot take: Working from a cafe in Bali is way better than a coworking space
I mean, I tried a popular coworking spot in Canggu for a month, paying like $150, and it was just too loud and full of people trying to network. Switched to a quiet local cafe with good wifi for the price of a coffee, and my focus is so much better. Has anyone else found that coworking spaces are overrated in some spots?

Paying to be distracted" is the new normal for everything now.

Wait, people are paying for coworking spaces now? I thought the whole point was to get out of the house for free wifi and cheap coffee. Paying rent to listen to someone else's Zoom call sounds like a special kind of torture. The gym comparison is perfect, because you're basically buying into the idea of work without getting any actual quiet done. It's wild how we keep inventing new ways to sell back the simple things we already had.

Spot this happening everywhere now. The official, paid-for version of something gets crowded and loses its point. Like how a fancy gym gets so packed you can't use the weights, but a simple park workout gets the job done. Coworking spaces sold us on community, but sometimes that just means paying to be distracted in a room full of strangers. A quiet cafe with a solid connection often gives you back the focus you were trying to buy in the first place.
