Hotel wifi vs tethering for a week, I made the wrong call in Lisbon

I had to pick between paying for the hotel's premium wifi or just using my phone hotspot for my client calls last month. The hotel wifi seemed easier, so I went with that, and the first Zoom meeting dropped me three times in 20 minutes. Switched to tethering on day two and it was rock solid, but I burned through 15GB of data by Friday. Now I'm wondering if anyone else just plans for the hotspot and skips hotel wifi entirely, or is that too risky for bigger uploads?
