I finally got my parents to understand my nomadic lifestyle after a year of calls.

Regular check-ins eased their worries and now they envy my freedom.

My buddy Jake let his mom video call his RV kitchen once. She spent the whole time asking why he only had one pot and if the counter was clean enough. It actually made her more nervous because she could see every detail. That's kinda like @patel.christopher's point about Sunday calls, where being visible sets new rules. But after a few months, she got used to it and now just asks about the weather outside his window. Funny how that works.

Yeah, I read a blog post about this. The writer said video calls were the real game changer. Their mom stopped worrying so much once she could actually see their apartment in Lisbon or their van setup, instead of just imagining the worst. It turned the whole thing from some scary idea into a normal Monday chat.

Lol that's so true. But it's wild how video calls can also make distance feel smaller in a bad way, like now my dad expects me to be free every Sunday even though we're in totally different time zones.

Honestly showing them your setup is a trap. Now they have visual evidence to critique your life choices. My mom just uses my background to ask why I own so few plates.
