Just realized I was doing my travel budget all wrong

I mean, for like two years I tracked every single coffee and bus ride in a spreadsheet, thinking that was the smart way. Then last month in Lisbon, I met another nomad who just uses one fixed daily spend number for fun stuff, no itemizing. He said, 'If you have to think about a 3 euro pastry, you budgeted wrong.' That hit me. I was wasting maybe an hour a week logging tiny things for no real gain. Now I just set aside 40 euros a day for food and fun, and it's so much simpler. Has anyone else switched from super detailed tracking to a simpler method?

Sounds like you were budgeting for your budget.

It's the same with grocery lists and calorie counting.

But what if you need to track something? Like, my friend has to count carbs for medical reasons. It's not about control, it's just info. A grocery list stops you from forgetting milk. Sometimes the numbers are just tools, not rules.

Exactly. A hammer can build or break.
