My trusty travel router finally gave up in Lisbon last week.

It was a cheap one I bought in 2018, and suddenly no device would connect. Had to hotspot from my phone for two days while I found a local electronics shop. Anyone have a durable router brand that's survived more than a few years on the road?

Honestly, a travel router dying just means you're using your phone's hotspot. It's not a crisis. That's what the hotspot is for. My last one broke in 2019 and I never replaced it. The phone does the same thing without needing another gadget to charge. It feels like solving a problem that doesn't really need to exist.

Gotta admit, I used to think a travel router was totally worth it for hotel wifi. But after reading this, it really makes me wonder why I'd pack an extra thing when my phone can just do it. Idk, maybe it's just me but I can see the logic now.

My buddy's phone died while his router kept his whole family online.

I used to carry a travel router everywhere too (it felt like a must-have). After my last one died, I realized my phone's hotspot covers 90% of my needs just fine. It's one less thing to pack and worry about charging now.
