My visa run in Bangkok turned into a 48 hour airport hotel stay
I was in Thailand last month and my 60 day tourist visa was up. The plan was a quick border hop to Vientiane. My flight got cancelled due to a storm, and the next available one wasn't for two days. I had a client call scheduled for the morning I was supposed to be back. I ended up booking a room at the airport hotel for $65 a night and did the call from there, explaining the 'unusual background noise'. It worked, but it was stressful. Has anyone else had a simple visa run go completely sideways?

Honestly that sounds like a pretty smooth outcome for a messed up travel plan. You got a clean hotel room right at the airport for a normal price and your work call still happened. I know a guy who got stuck sleeping on a bench in Kuala Lumpur for two nights when his visa run flight got canceled. Compared to that, your story is a win. Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches when you're traveling on tourist visas. What was the hotel like?

Yeah, sleeping on a bench sounds awful, that's a whole different level of travel nightmare. You're right though, finding a decent spot at the airport for a regular price feels like a small miracle when plans fall apart. It really is all about just dealing with it and not letting it ruin your whole trip. Makes you appreciate the simple wins, like a clean bed and a working wifi signal, doesn't it?
