The choice between a cheap apartment in Medellin and a nicer one with a real kitchen

I had to pick between a $400 spot in El Poblado with a hot plate and a microwave, or a $650 place in Laureles with a full stove and oven. I went with the cheaper one to save cash, but after two weeks of trying to cook pasta in a single pot, I was over it. I moved to the Laureles place last Tuesday and the first thing I did was bake a cake (which was a mess, but a fun one). Anyone else ever pick the budget option for a place and then regret it because you couldn't cook right?

Used to think a hot plate was all I needed, but this post finally made me understand the struggle. Cooking pasta in a single pot while trying to keep everything from burning is just not worth saving a few bucks. Ross.christopher, in my experience the real trick is getting the yolk to set without the hot plate burning the edges.
