Unpopular opinion: The 'work from anywhere' dream is killing local housing markets.

I was in Lisbon last month and a landlord told me a 1-bedroom apartment that rented for 800 euros two years ago is now 1800, and he only does short-term lets to 'remote professionals'. This isn't freedom, it's just pushing people out of their own cities. How do we justify this lifestyle when it has such a clear negative impact?

Ugh, I was all for it before. But seeing those numbers, you're totally right.

That report @holly709 linked last month was a total game changer for me too. I mean, they really bury the extra fees in the fine print. It just makes the whole thing feel kind of dishonest, you know?

Yeah, the data can be a real eye-opener. Read this deep dive last week that broke down the long-term costs everyone ignores. It completely changed my view on the whole thing. The initial pitch always sounds great, but the follow-up expenses are just brutal. They don't make that clear at the start at all. Makes you wonder what else they're not saying upfront.

Lisbon's rent jump is a perfect example of this problem.
