Finally filed the paperwork after 6 months of putting it off

I was so scared to actually go to the courthouse and file for real. Thought my lawyer was just pushing me toward it to run up her bill, she charges $350 an hour. But after sitting on the papers since August and feeling stuck, I just walked into the courthouse on Main Street last Tuesday and did it. Took maybe 20 minutes total. Has anyone else felt that huge relief after doing the one scary step you were avoiding?

Hang on, you're calling that a "scary step"? Filing papers at a courthouse is barely a step at all, it's more like checking a box. The real scary part was supposed to be those 6 months of actually dealing with whatever mess got you there in the first place. You paid a lawyer $350 an hour and then just walked in and did the clerk's job for her in 20 minutes? Sounds like you wasted a ton of money on someone who probably just sat on your case while you did all the work. That 6 months of waiting was probably your gut telling you this wasn't the right move yet, but now you're calling it relief because you finally stopped listening to yourself.

Oh wow, I actually gotta disagree with you here! Filing those papers is absolutely a scary step because it makes everything real and official. You can think about leaving someone or making a huge life change for months, but the moment you sign that paper and hand it over to the clerk, there's no going back. It's like the difference between thinking about jumping off a diving board and actually standing at the edge staring down. And about the lawyer thing, sometimes you hire someone just to make sure you don't mess up the process, not because you need them to hold your hand through every little thing. The six months of waiting was me being careful and making sure I was doing the right thing, not my gut telling me to run away. Everyone's journey is different, and what feels like a small step to you can feel huge to someone else.
