Just realized the divorce rate for second marriages is way higher than I thought

I was reading through some census data last night, and it says something like 60% of second marriages end in divorce compared to around 50% for first ones. Found it on a government stats page while looking up alimony numbers in my state. Has anyone else noticed this pattern with people they know in real life?

But have you considered that the higher divorce rate in second marriages might actually be a positive thing because people are quicker to walk away from a bad situation, having learned from their first mistake and knowing what they won't put up with anymore? The numbers don't track how many of those second splits are people who finally understood their own boundaries and chose to enforce them rather than stay miserable. It kind of flips the whole "failure" narrative on its head if you look at it through that lens.

60 percent is brutal, I had no idea it jumped that much. I always figured people would be better at picking partners the second time around. Guess not, or maybe they just get smarter about leaving when it goes bad.
