Lawyers bill for every email, every phone call, every time they breathe in your direction. That $2,800 probably bought you twenty hours of someone actually walking you through the emotional garbage and the practical steps without a meter running. Mine charged me $400 just to explain what a parenting plan was, and then another $300 to explain it again. @lewis.brian, you're assuming your lawyer has the time or patience to hold your hand through the crying fits and the panic about the house, which mine sure didn't. The coach kept me from blowing up the settlement over stupid stuff, which would've cost way more than $2,800 in lawyer fees. Different tools for different jobs, I guess.
