Spent $800 on a marriage counselor and it was the BEST money I ever wasted

She told me in session 4 that my husband was never going to change and I needed to decide if I could live with that. Has anyone else had a counselor give it to them straight like that or did mine just want my money?

That counselor sounds like she earned every penny of that $800. Mine just told me to "try harder" and then charged me for a full session while she checked her email the whole time. Guess who's still divorced and who's got a lighter wallet? Yours at least gave you the truth even if it stung. Sometimes you need someone who's not your friend or family to say what everyone else is too scared to whisper. I'd take brutal honesty over polite lies any day, even if it costs a small fortune.

Damn, you know what, I used to be one of those people who just wanted the soft approach. Thought paying for therapy meant getting coddled or whatever. But after a landscaper buddy of mine lost his marriage cause his counselor kept telling him everything was fine when it clearly wasnt, I changed my tune. You can't fix shit nobody's willing to point out. That blunt truth you got sounds like it actually did something, even if it was a kick in the teeth.

Same pattern everywhere people just want to hear what they want to hear instead of the hard stuff that actually helps.
