That time I tried to split assets without a lawyer... took 18 months

I figured my ex and I could just divide our stuff ourselves, save some money. Our house and retirement accounts seemed simple enough. But then we got stuck on who gets the timeshare in Myrtle Beach and the value of his vintage car collection. Wound up spending 18 months going back and forth before we finally hired a mediator. Anyone else underestimate how long the property split would take?

Eighteen months sounds about right, honestly... that timeshare alone probably caused four of them.

but like is it really about liking to complain or is it more about how you just don't feel heard otherwise? i know sometimes i'll let little things slide for weeks then suddenly i'm ranting about bad customer service because that one thing just broke me. it's exhausting but also it feels like the only way to get companies to actually fix stuff. people wouldn't keep complaining if they thought anyone was actually listening the first time right?
