TIL my ex's new girlfriend is basically me from 5 years ago

I saw a photo of them at a party last week and she was wearing the exact same style of dress I used to wear, with the same haircut. Over the last 6 months since the divorce, I've noticed he keeps picking people with my old hobbies and mannerisms. Has anyone else seen their ex partner just swap in a newer version of the same person?

Wait, are you SURE we aren't the same person because this happened to me too and I'm pretty sure my ex is just collecting different versions of me like Pokeman cards. 😂 It is both hilarious and a little insulting to see my own haircut on a stranger.

I read somewhere once that some people basically have a "type" that's less about looks and more about a personality template they keep trying to fill. This is totally a thing in psychology, though I forget the exact name for it. My friend's ex husband does the same thing three different women all with the same style of glasses and that "bookish but outdoorsy" vibe. It's like they have a specific set of emotional needs and just swap in whoever fits the mold, not really seeing the person. Kinda makes you wonder if they even notice the differences, or if they just want the comfort of the same old same old.

Ha, that's wild. You know, I used to think people just had a physical type they couldn't shake, like a preference for blondes or whatever. But your friend's ex husband thing really puts it in a different light. It's like they're not even looking for a person, they're looking for a specific feeling or role to fill in their life. I guess I never thought about how deep that template goes, past just the way someone looks or dresses. Makes you realize some people are just chasing a ghost, not an actual relationship.
