Used to split holiday weekends with my ex-wife's family, now I just stay home

Every Memorial Day and Labor Day we'd drive 4 hours to her parents' place in Boise, and I'd spend the whole time pretending to enjoy their casserole dinners. Since the divorce finalized in March 2023, I've spent both holidays alone in my apartment with a frozen pizza and a book. It's lonely sometimes but also way less exhausting. Anyone else find that holidays feel completely different after the split?

Ask @kai_burns73 if he ever feels like the quiet holidays make him wonder what he actually wants out of a relationship now, or is the peace just worth it?

Start with something simple like a frozen lasagna instead of pizza, makes the whole night feel less like you're 22 again. @kai_burns73 is onto something with that whole pizza approach though, just have to find what makes the quiet feel like peace instead of lonely.

You ever notice how holidays bring out the weirdest food traditions? My ex's family insisted on green bean casserole with those fried onions on top. I hate it. Always have. One time I accidentally grabbed the wrong Tupperware from her mom's fridge and ended up with her leftover liverwurst instead. Took me three bites to realize. Now I just eat a whole pizza by myself and don't share with anyone. Best part of being single.
