Am I the only one who thinks that 3 coats of paint is almost always overkill?
Honestly, I just finished painting my living room in my Kansas City house and I hit a wall after the second coat. The coverage was perfect with the Behr Marquee I used, and a third coat would have been a total waste of time and paint. Everyone says you need three, but I think with a good primer and a quality paint, two is plenty. Has anyone else found that the 'three coat rule' is just a myth for most walls?

What about the color you're painting over? I mean, if you're going from a light beige to a light gray, two coats of a good paint is fine. But idk, I've seen people try to cover up a bright red or something with just two and it bleeds through like crazy. Maybe that's where the three coat idea comes from.

My brother-in-law swears by three coats, but he also buys the cheapest paint at the hardware store.

Ever try to paint over a dark color? I used a good primer and a solid paint like Sherwin-Williams Duration, and two coats got it done perfectly. Sounds like @miller.diana's brother-in-law is fighting a losing battle with that cheap paint.
