Just realized I sanded 40 stair spindles by hand

I've been putting off refinishing my stair railing for like 2 years. Finally tackled it last weekend and counted as I went, 40 wooden spindles total. Sanding each one with 80 grit then 120 took me three full afternoons, my arms were noodles. But I hit that 40th spindle and just stood there, amazed I didn't quit at 12. Anyone else ever surprise themselves with a boring repetitive task they thought they'd hate?

Wait, did you count them before you started or after you finished, because that makes a huge difference in how crazy the whole thing sounds? Three afternoons of that sounds like actual torture, but I bet your arms look way better than mine do after I binge a whole season of a show. I once hand-sanded a single dresser drawer and gave up halfway to just paint over the rough spots, so you've got way more patience than me. Honestly, the only repetitive task I've ever finished without quitting was eating a bag of chips, and that's not exactly a flex. You earned the right to stand there and stare at that 40th spindle like it owes you money.

Did you count them as you went or just lose track by spindle 12 and invent a number later? Because I've definitely rounded up on project counts before just to make the story sound better.
