My garage workbench collapsed last Tuesday. What a mess.
Built it two years ago with cheap 2x4s from the home center. Didn't realize they were wet when I bought them. They dried out and warped bad. The whole shelf came down on my drill press. Had to tear it all apart and start over with kiln dried lumber. Anybody else get burned by wet lumber from the big box stores?

Man that sucks. I had a similar thing happen with a bookshelf I built for my daughter's room. Used those pressure treated boards from the home center and they were dripping wet when I brought them home. Thought I let them dry out enough but nope, they twisted and cracked over the winter. My wife still gives me grief about the whole thing. Have you tried using the kiln dried stuff from a local lumber yard instead of the big box stores?

Kiln dried lumber from a yard makes a huge difference. The big box stores keep their wood inside a damp warehouse, so it warps as soon as you bring it home. I switched a few years back and haven't had a single board twist on me since.

Yeah what @brooket43 said is right on. I started buying from a local yard a couple years ago after a similar mess with some shelving. The difference is night and day. Haven't had a board twist on me since.
