Set my saw too deep, blew a chunk out of a customer's baseboard

I was trimming out a living room in a new build over near Riverton. Thought I had my depth set right on the miter saw but I was off by maybe an eighth. Nicked the bottom of a brand new preprimed baseboard and it splintered up about 3 inches. Had to pull the whole board, cut a new one, and recaulk. Took an extra 45 minutes and I felt like an idiot the whole time. Anyone else had a brain fart with a saw setting that cost you more time than it should have?

Buddy of mine did the same thing on a twelve foot casing.

Wait a twelve foot casing? Like legit 12 feet? That's insane, I can't even picture how you'd get that thing in place without a crane or something.

That trim you pulled, was it a standard 8 footer or something longer like a 12 or 16? I've noticed longer boards are harder to get a clean cut on because flex in the material throws your depth off. Just wondering if that played into the splinter.
