Spent 4 hours mudding drywall in my basement only to realize I used setting compound instead of all-purpose

Had to grind it all down at 2am before my night shift because that stuff sets like concrete and I couldnt sand it smooth - anyone else mix up their drywall mud and pay the price?

Did you grab the wrong bag because the labels look too similar in bad light? I did the same thing last year when I was tinting my mud for a dark blue accent wall. The setting compound had a different consistency right off the bat but I was too tired to notice until it was too late. Now I keep the setting compound in a separate bucket with a bright orange lid so I can tell them apart at a glance.

Actually Evan, I'm going to push back on the bucket idea. Those bright orange lids are fine until you buy a new bucket of premixed joint compound that also happens to have an orange lid. Now you've got two orange lids and no way to tell which is which unless you label them. And lets be honest, nobody labels anything after the first week. I think the real issue here is just being too tired to pay attention.

Can't believe you were tinting mud at all, that's some next level dedication.
