Tried cheap vinyl floor tiles from big box store, thought they'd peel up in a week

I was super skeptical about those peel and stick vinyl tiles for my basement in Detroit. Spent about $120 on them for a 10x12 room and figured I'd be replacing them in 6 months. But after prepping the concrete floor really well (cleaned it twice, let it dry 24 hours), they have held up for 2 years now with no curling. Even had a small water spill from a leaky pipe and they didn't lift at all. What convinced me was watching a friend use them in a rental property where tenants are rough on floors. Has anyone else had good luck with cheap flooring that everyone says is junk?

Honestly that's awesome to hear your tiles held up like that. Prep work is probably the biggest thing people skip, sounds like you did it right. Glad your basement floor isn't a total disaster zone.

Keep that prep up and you can probably tile a room blindfolded by now lol

Honestly I gotta push back on this a little. Prep work helps for sure but cheap tiles are still cheap tiles, you know? I used the same kind in my laundry room and followed every step to the letter, even put down primer first. Within 8 months the corners were curling up and the pattern started wearing off in front of the washing machine. Could be your concrete was just in better shape than mine or maybe the brand matters more than people admit. I think a lot of it comes down to luck and how much foot traffic the room actually gets. Did you seal the floor after or just use the tiles as is?
