Used to paint trim with a cheap brush from the hardware store, now I spend $25 on one good angle brush

I spent years fighting with brush marks and drips on baseboards until a painter at the Benjamin Moore store in Austin told me to try a Purdy brush. Switched six months ago and the difference in control and smooth finish is night and day. Has anyone else noticed a huge jump in quality just by upgrading one tool?

A $25 brush for painting trim? It's trim paint. It's not that deep.

Nah man, you're wrong. A good brush makes a huge difference on trim. Cheap ones leave brush strokes and shed bristles into your paint. That $25 Purdy or Wooster will pay for itself in time saved and a smoother finish. You ever try cutting in with a $3 brush? It's a nightmare.

Tbh that's exactly the thing @theajohnson, it's not just about the trim. It's this whole weird mindset people have now where they'll spend hours complaining about something being hard but won't drop an extra twenty bucks to make it easier. I see it everywhere - people buy the cheapest trash bags then get mad when they rip, or get the worst sponges and wonder why dishes aren't clean. The $25 brush is the same deal. It's not about the trim being deep, it's about not fighting your tools when you're already doing the work.
