Vent: neighbor's advice about painting over wallpaper was a disaster

My neighbor Bob told me to just paint over the wallpaper in my hallway instead of stripping it. Said he did it in his house and it looked fine. Three months later the wallpaper started bubbling up in these big ugly patches. Had to scrape it all off anyway plus deal with the paint mess. Anyone else had bad luck with this shortcut?

God, this is giving me flashbacks to when I tried to paint over that cheap wood paneling in my basement without sanding it first. Looked great for about a week then started peeling off in these big sad sheets like a snake shedding its skin. Bob probably thought he was being helpful, but now you're doing twice the work and he's probably pretending his walls are fine while they slowly bubble up behind his couch.

People always think they found some magic shortcut until reality smacks them in the face. It's the same thing with using duct tape to patch drywall or skipping primer before painting. Shortcuts just end up costing you more time and money in the long run.

Three times now I've tried using duct tape to hold a baseboard on just for one night while the glue dried, and three times I've woken up to it on the floor at 3am. That satisfying ripping sound is basically just the universe laughing at you. Same energy as the time my cousin thought he'd save 15 minutes by painting over wallpaper without stripping it first. Now his living room looks like a horror movie set where the walls are slowly shedding their skin. Some lessons you just gotta learn the hard way I guess.
