I keep seeing people skip the primer step on trim paint jobs and it drives me nuts

Do they enjoy watching paint peel later?

Used to think that was just being lazy. Then I saw my neighbor's old fence. They left the paint to chip and fade for years, and honestly? The way the wood showed through in patches, with all those soft colors layered underneath, it looked better than a fresh coat. Changed how I see a lot of old things now.

Oh, absolutely! It's the next big hobby, right after competitive grass growing. Honestly though, some people really do get into that whole worn-out look. I guess it's an acquired taste.

People skipping primer is like watching a train wreck in slow motion" - exactly. My friend swore she could skip it on her kitchen cabinets and they looked fine for about a month. Then the paint started peeling right off where she wiped down the grease spots, and she had to sand everything down and start over. She learned that lesson the hard way, but at least now she calls primer her best friend.
