My basement floor drain backed up during a rainstorm in April

I was down there moving some boxes when I saw water bubbling up around the drain cover. I tried a cheap plastic drain snake from the hardware store, but it just got stuck. Ended up calling a plumber who found a broken pipe under the slab, which cost me $1,200 to fix. Anyone know a good way to check for these problems before they flood your house?

Honestly I just got charged for existing, pretty sure my next surprise bill is gonna be for oxygen usage.
