My uncle told me to stop using liquid nails on baseboards
He said I was making a mess and it would never hold right. I told him I'd been doing it that way for 5 years and it was fine. Then last month I had to pull off a whole section to fix a leak and the board shattered. Tried his method with a brad nailer and construction adhesive in a tube and it came off clean in one piece. Has anyone else been doing something dumb for years without realizing it?

Hear me out, if you've been doing liquid nails for 5 years with no major issues, maybe the problem wasn't the method but the wall or the wood. Sometimes those cheap hollow baseboards just don't hold up no matter what you use, and a brad nailer only works if you hit the studs exactly right. Plus liquid nails gives you that extra second to shift the board before it sets, which is way more forgiving than glue that grabs instantly.

Funny how we always blame the tool instead of admitting some stuff just ain't built to last.

Five years with liquid nails and no complaints? At this point I'd just assume you've got some kind of spiritual connection with the stuff.
