Wait, one of them said you should paint first without priming? On old drywall? That just doesn't make any sense to me at all... I've done a few rooms in my house and the old paint always soaks up new paint weird if you skip the primer. The pros who told you opposite things must have been looking at different walls or something because that's a huge difference in advice. You really gotta get a coat of primer on there first to seal everything up, otherwise you're just asking for trouble down the road.

Prime over old paint first or you'll get peeling.
