Showerthought: My deck almost collapsed because I skipped the joist tape step in 2021
Three years ago in Charlotte, I saved maybe $40 and a Saturday morning by not sealing the joists before laying the composite boards. The rot I found last week means I'm redoing the whole frame now. Anyone have a go-to brand for pressure-treated lumber that actually holds up?

Ugh, that's brutal. So the rot was just in the joists, not the composite decking itself? I've heard composite can trap moisture against the wood if it's not sealed. Was it a total loss, or could you sister any of the old joists to save some work?

Total loss, had to replace every single joist. The composite was fine but it definitely held moisture against the wood. Just a full rebuild from the ground up.

Did you check if the composite boards had those built in drainage channels? I read somewhere that some brands let water pool more than others, which could make the joist tape issue even worse. That might explain why some people have way more rot than others.
