TIL the hard way that mixing different brands of drywall joint compound is a recipe for cracking messes

Used to just grab whatever bucket was cheapest at Home Depot in Phoenix and mix em together, but after three separate patches peeled off the ceiling within two months, I switched to sticking with one brand through a whole project and have had zero issues since - anyone else run into this or was I just doing something dumb with my mud?

Buddy of mine did the same thing and his ceiling looked like a jigsaw puzzle.

Did you mix them wet or let one dry first before adding the other?

And yeah @lunar89, I was definitely dumb enough to mix them wet like some kind of mud scientist. Figured it'd be fine since they're all basically the same goop. Nope. Lesson learned the hard way.
