Watching a guy at the hardware store demo a laser level changed my whole tile layout

I was at the Ace on Main Street picking up thinset, and a guy was showing another customer how to use a basic $60 laser level. He shot a line across a whole wall in two seconds to check for plumb. I used to spend 20 minutes with a 4-foot level and a pencil, constantly rechecking. That one demo made me buy one right then. How much time do you really save on a big floor with a laser versus the old way?

Oh man, that's the truth. I once spent a whole weekend trying to line up some cabinets before I finally caved and got a laser.

Seriously a whole weekend just for cabinets? A bubble level and a pencil never hurt anybody. Lasers are cool but come on, it's not brain surgery. Feels like we're making simple jobs way too hard these days.

Ugh this whole debate is SO familiar. My husband and I nearly had a silent treatment standoff over a floating shelf because he refused to get a level out of the toolbox. It was leaning like the Tower of Pisa. Sometimes the old school way is just stubborn, not better. That laser would have saved our Saturday AND our mood.

My laser level saved me three hours on a backsplash last month.
