Changed my mind about speed bumps after visiting Oak Park last month

I used to think speed bumps were just annoying... then I spent a weekend in Oak Park, IL. They have these raised crosswalks near every school and park. Cars actually stop. My own street has zero traffic calming and kids ride bikes in the road. Why do some neighborhoods get this treatment and others don't? Have you seen this work better in certain areas?

Oak Park has 17 raised crosswalks last time I checked the village site... I know because I counted them while trying to parallel park and nearly hit one. Honestly makes me wonder if my town just hates pedestrians or forgot what paint even costs.

17 raised crosswalks and that's what they're counting? I hit one in my mom's Civic last month and thought I broke her suspension. @kai_chen2 right? The whole town feels like a obstacle course designed by someone who hates cars. My buddy from Evanston says they just use paint and everyone manages fine. Our town spent like 50k on concrete humps and people still fly over them at 25. Its wild.
