Got grilled at the HOA meeting for my rain barrel setup

Installed a 50 gallon rain barrel last spring to cut my water bill, and the board president said it looked trashy. Meanwhile the rich guy three houses down has a huge unpermitted shed that nobody says a word about. Anyone else dealing with selective rule enforcement in their neighborhood?

Small correction, 50 gallons is actually pretty modest for a rain barrel setup, most folks I know run 100 gallons or more without any issues. Selective enforcement happens all the time though, bet the board just has a personal beef with your barrel placement.

Hold up, 50 gallons is modest? Man, 50 gallons is a ton of water if you're actually using it regularly. Most gardens don't need that much stored at once unless you're running a farm. Plus, those big 100+ gallon barrels get stupid heavy and can crack your foundation or attract mosquitoes if you're not super careful. The board probably has rules for a reason, maybe the guy's barrel was blocking a walkway or looked trashy. Selective enforcement is real but sometimes people just don't follow the damn rules and want to play victim.
