My neighbor got a warning for parking on the street overnight, but the landlord's truck sits there every night with no ticket

I live in a small town in Ohio where the street parking ban runs from 2 AM to 6 AM during winter months for snow plows. Last week my neighbor parked his car on the street one night because his driveway was blocked by a delivery. He got a $40 ticket taped to his windshield by 6:30 AM. But the guy who owns the apartment building two doors down has parked his big F-250 on the exact same street every single night for the past 3 months. Nobody ever touches it. I called the city office to ask about it and the lady basically told me they only enforce based on complaints from neighbors. So it's not a rule, it's a "who complains about who" situation. Has anyone else run into this kind of selective enforcement in their town?

Bought my house three years ago and found out the hard way that the cop across the street’s wife can park on the grass all summer long but my kid gets a warning for a basketball hoop being two feet too close to the curb.

Honestly @colethomas, I gotta push back a little here. My brother-in-law's a cop in a small town, and he's told me the whole "grass parking" thing is usually just a neighborly agreement, not some official pass. For all you know, that officer's wife has a medical reason or a specific permit from the town hall that nobody's bothered to look up. The basketball hoop warning, on the other hand, is probably a city code enforcement thing that has nothing to do with the cop's personal influence. Ngl, I've seen HOA boards and local ordinances get super picky about stuff like curbs and fixtures for safety or property value reasons, not just to annoy one kid. Maybe the cop's wife is actually breaking a rule, but maybe your hoop broke a different rule that's enforced by a separate department. Tbh, it's easy to assume favoritism, but sometimes it's just two totally different rulebooks playing out.

Yeah it's like some rules only apply to certain people.
