Finally gave in and tried a digital measuring wheel on a site in Nashville
Thought they'd be clunky and inaccurate compared to my old tape, but it saved me like 30 minutes on a single lot takeoff. Anyone else find a tool they swore they'd never use actually works better?

And @holly709, the laser distance measurer is exactly what I was thinking of too, I swear I dragged a tape across wet grass for like five years before admitting it wasn't worth it. It's funny how we get set in our ways and just assume the new stuff is gonna be junk, but once you actually try it you realize how much time you've been wasting. I mean, I still keep a tape in the truck for backup but the laser has pretty much taken over on most jobs.

Got a laser distance measurer last year and felt the same way. It paid for itself in time saved on the first big measuring day, no more wrestling a 100 foot tape across wet grass. Makes you wonder why we put up with the old methods for so long.

It's like we convince ourselves the old way is just part of the job, that wrestling a tape across wet grass or trying to hold it straight on a windy day is normal. Then you use a laser one time and it's like a lightbulb goes off. Suddenly you realize you've been making your own life harder for no good reason. Same thing happened to me with a digital level, used a bubble level for years and now I can't believe I didn't switch sooner. Once you break that habit of sticking with what you know, it's hard to go back.
