I've been drawing my section views wrong for years because my college prof in Milwaukee taught us to use a 0.5mm line for everything.

A senior checker at my new job pointed out that using a 0.35mm for the cut and a 0.5mm for the outline makes the drawing way clearer and easier to read, so which line weight method do you actually use on your sections?

Wait, you used the same line weight for everything? That senior checker just saved you a ton of future headaches. I use the different weights exactly like they said, 0.35 for the cut and 0.5 for the outline. It makes the drawing pop and shows depth way better. Your old professor was stuck in some weird, outdated method. The different weights are standard for a reason, it just works.

Honestly thought my old professor knew best, but seeing the difference side by side is wild. That checker was totally right about the depth thing. Makes you wonder what other "rules" are just old habits, you know? Guess it's time to retire the single pen for good.

Maybe old habits have their place though. A single pen can force you to solve depth with line quality, not just weight.

Hmm, I dunno if this is really worth getting worked up over though... it's just pens, right? @emma_baker61 might have a point about old habits still working fine depending on what you're drawing. Like, it's good advice and all, but it's not like using one pen is gonna ruin your whole career or anything.
