My first foreman in Charlotte told me to always draw the centerline first, even on simple parts, and after 15 years I finally see why it saves so much time on revisions.
He said it back in 2008 when I was just starting out, and I thought it was pointless extra work until a complex assembly drawing I did last week needed a major change and that single line made the whole edit take about 20 minutes instead of half a day... does anyone have a similar 'old rule' that seemed annoying but actually pays off?

Pointless extra work" is what I call most good advice for the first ten years. It always takes a real mess to show you why the boring rule was there. Guess we're all just slow learners.

Friend's dad ignored a "wet floor" sign. Broke his wrist. Now he's a sign believer.

Learned that one the hard way with a "do not touch" sign on a piece of machinery at my old job. Spent a week regretting that little experiment.
