My old lead drafter swore by fat pencils, and it cost me a week of rework
He told me to sketch with a 5mm lead holder instead of my usual .5 mechanical, saying it 'forces you to think big picture.' I ignored him for 3 weeks, then my overlay set came back from the engineer with 14 redlines because my line weights were so tight they read as one layer. I switched to his fat pencil trick and redoing the whole floor plan in St. Louis took half the time, but I still think it's a crutch for sloppy drafting. Has anyone else gotten advice from an old timer that sounded dumb but then saved your job, or was it just ego?

Did the redlines disappear once you switched back to the mechanical?

Had a buddy who swore by that exact setup, he switched back and the redlines just stopped showing up overnight. He thought it was a sensor ghost, turned out the mechanical was feeding cleaner signal to his readout. Took him a month to realize the digital was just throwing false alarms, now he laughs about it every time someone brings up redlines.
