Picked a digital caliper over a tape measure for tiny trim work

I was cutting quarter round for a bathroom job in an old house and kept missing marks with my tape. Switched to a $20 digital caliper and got within 1/32 on every piece. Has anyone else tried measuring small trim this way?

Had my buddy try this on his baseboards last weekend. He was super skeptical but now he's telling everyone about it, said it made his cuts way more consistent.

Have you tried the depth gauge on those calipers for scribing against uneven walls? I found it works way better than a tape for marking where the back of the trim needs to notch around a crooked corner. On my last door casing job it saved me from cutting three different test pieces. Your mileage may vary but for me the caliper's built in step and depth functions made it a no brainer for tight spots a tape just can't reach.

Huh, never thought to try that. Gotta give it a shot next time I'm wrestling with old crooked door frames.
