Senior drafter nailed me on layer naming - changed everything
Been drafting for about 8 years and always used my own layer naming system. Last month a senior guy at a project in Denver looked at my file and said 'this looks like a ransom note, not a drawing.' He showed me how they use a standard numbering system with dashes and prefixes. Switched over that same week and now I can find anything in 2 seconds instead of 10 minutes of hunting. Has anyone else had to unlearn a bad habit from early in their career?

Uh, "ransom note" is a bit dramatic. Look, if YOUR system works for YOU and you can find things, who cares what it looks like? Not everyone needs to follow some corporate cookie-cutter method.

Oh man, that "ransom note" comment is brutal but honestly kind of funny. I gotta push back a little though - doesn't it drive you crazy when you jump into someone else's file and their layer names are all personal shorthand? Like I've seen people use "A-WALL" for architectural walls and "S-WALL" for structural, but then someone else uses "WAL-A" and "WAL-S" and you're just guessing until you open properties. Isn't it worth standardizing just so the next person doesn't want to throw their keyboard?
