Finally bought a decent set of wrenches after my last one slipped and cost me a shift

I spent $150 on a new set of Gearwrench wrenches after that cheap $30 set from the hardware store rounded off a bolt on a pump housing. I lost a whole afternoon waiting for a replacement part because I couldn't get the old one off cleanly. Anyone else had a cheap tool bite them in the wallet, or is it just me?

Man that Craftsman story hurts to hear. I had almost the exact same thing happen with a no-name socket set from the auto parts store. Was trying to break loose a rusty tie rod end and the wall of the socket split clean in half. The impact spun around and smacked my finger against the control arm. Couldn't feel the tip of my index finger for two weeks. The worst part is I spent more on the doctor's visit than I would have just buying a half-decent set from the start. Now I'm the guy who won't borrow or lend tools to anyone, learned that lesson the hard way.

My buddy Mark snapped a Craftsman socket on a lug nut and bent his rim.
