Had to decide between a full pump rebuild or just replacing the impeller on the old 8-inch cutterhead dredge
Went with the impeller, and of course the main bearing gave out two days later, costing me an extra $3k in downtime lol. Anyone got a better system for spotting those early wear signs before they blow?

Davis, are you checking the vibe readings while the cutter is under load or just at idle? I've found the numbers change way more when you're actually digging and that's where the real story is. What kind of baseline are you running for the mains on your setup?

Just replacing the impeller" is always a gamble. What's your vibration analysis look like on the main shaft?
