That silt buildup on a job in Brunswick caught me off guard
I was running a 12-inch cutter suction in a tight channel and the material was mostly sand, but this one spot had way more clay than I expected and it jammed up the pump for 20 minutes before I caught it. Has anyone else found that reading the core samples ahead of time isn't always enough to avoid surprises in the field?

Read a study saying clay clogs pumps way faster than sand does.

Core samples are like reading the menu at a fancy restaurant and then finding out they served you leftovers. I pulled a dredge head out once looking like it had been dipped in modeling clay, had to spend an hour with a pressure washer just to see metal again. That Brunswick clay packs tighter than a hangover on a Monday morning, no joke.
