Vent: Switched from wireline to clamshell and I'm second-guessing everything
I used cable tool rigs for 12 years but took a job last month running a clamshell on a river project. The precision on the bucket just feels sloppy compared to the control I had with wireline. Anyone else struggle with that change or am I just not giving it enough time?

Give it time, clamshells just feel looser at first.

Twelve years is a long time but it's only been a month, give it a real chance before you panic.

Buddy of mine did the same switch three years ago. He was cursing that clamshell for two months straight, said it felt like trying to thread a needle with oven mitts on. Then one day the river dropped and he could actually see the bottom, realized he was overcorrecting for the slack. He still says wireline was more precise but the clamshell pays better and he stopped second guessing around month four.
