Found out the hard way that skipping the primer coat on new drywall is a trap

I was rushing a basement job in Minneapolis last month and thought I could save an hour by going straight to paint. Two coats later and the texture was completely uneven with bare spots everywhere. Has anyone else had to strip and start over after skipping that step?

Stripping it all down sounds like a nightmare honestly. But @paul_ramirez your peel stop bubbling experience is exactly what I'm worried about. Did you have to sand a lot after that fix or did it lay flat enough for paint to grab? Trying to figure out if the peel stop is a band-aid or a legit save on this job.

Forget stripping it, just hit the worst spots with some Gardz or Zinsser peel stop and re-roll. Saves you way more time than sanding everything down.

Oh man, I tried that once and the peel stop bubbled up like bad wallpaper anyway.
