Honestly, I just finished my 500th sheet of 5/8 inch firecode in a single apartment complex build and the number actually hit me.

That's 125,000 screws if you used the standard five per stud.

You said "firecode" but I'm pretty sure you mean Type X. Firecode is the name of the gypsum association's book of rules, not the actual product. It's a super common mix-up. The 5/8 inch sheetrock you're hanging is Type X because it has the extra fire rating. After hanging that much, the number really does get in your head. I remember my first big count on a job and it just feels huge.

Oh man, the real mind-blower is when you start adding up the mud. On a job that size, you're looking at over a thousand pounds of joint compound easy. That's like a whole pallet of buckets just to finish it all.

Whoa, 125,000 screws? That number is just insane when you actually think about it. Idk how you dont go cross-eyed counting those out at five per stud for a whole building. Maybe it's just me but that would drive me nuts after like the first thousand.
1
